The works of German Romantic artist Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840) are allegorical landscapes, featuring contemplative figures silhouetted against the dramatic effects of nature.
 
This piece includes one of Friedrich’s iconic figures with their back to the viewer, gazing at the monumental fortress of Edinburgh Castle. Mr.J's desire is to draw the viewer into this artistic panorama, instilling a sense of wonder.
