Edinburgh Castle Rock, after Magritte

Edinburgh Castle Rock, after Magritte

Mixed media and pastels on archival paper

Edinburgh Castle is such an imposing feature of Mr.J's city that he sometimes imagines it situated in a completely different environment and what effect this might have.

This immediately brings René Magritte (1898-1967) and Surrealism to mind. Magritte has created some of the most innovative images set in the sky. His famous ‘The Castle of the Pyrenees’ (1959) led Mr.J to produce his own Surrealistic vision, reimagining this significant symbol of Edinburgh.
