Victoria Street, after Van Gogh

Victoria Street, after Van Gogh

Mixed media and pastels on archival paper

"I love lofty Victoria Street with its dramatic scale and quirky shape. This avenue offers a spectacular gateway to Edinburgh's historic Grassmarket."

At night, there are multiple light effects that create an enchanted atmosphere. This place is often linked to Diagon Alley from the Harry Potter series by Edinburgh author J.K. Rowling.

Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) adored yellow. For Mr.J, this hue always brings a feeling of joy and hope. In his own work, he has tried to use contrasting colours in an exciting and emotive way. Van Gogh’s eternal starry sky, combined with his spontaneous method of painting, demands limited but unique colours.
