Walter Scott Monument, after Munch

Walter Scott Monument, after Munch

Mixed media and pastels on archival paper

The iconic Scott Monument dominates any view of central Edinburgh. Mr.J has climbed the 287 steps on many occasions and seen the monument rise straight out of the gardens like a Victorian spaceship.

Norwegian painter Edvard Munch (1863-1944) has greatly influenced Mr.J's work, and he has used his intense red in his expressive interpretation. Recently, he saw this monument illuminated and immediately thought of Munch and how he would respond to it.
